WHAT IS REBORNING?
Reborning is the art of turning a play or collector doll or kit into an incredibly realistic heirloom one of a kind baby doll. Reborners use techniques that are similar but there are a diverse number of mediums used and techniques, each producing varied results, depending on the artist.
Sunbeam Babies Nursery, a subsidiary of Grandmother’s attic uses Genesis, a fine art paint that is neither an oil nor an acrylic - but an easy-to-use, revolutionary painting system organized and designed to free artists from the restrictions inherent in using oils and acrylics. While very similar to oil paint in feel, opacity, translucence and application, Genesis heat set oil paints are non-toxic and the lifetime of Genesis paints are expected to meet or exceed that of the existing paints on the market, making our beautiful reborn babies truly an heirloom to last.
After painting the most realistic baby complexion, baby is enhanced with veining and blushing to create the appearance of a healthy baby. Weighting the baby with poly pellets or other filling material snuggled in poly fil allows for a huggable, cuddly baby you will love to hold.
High quality imported mohair from Australia is used to micro root the baby’s head with a fine rooting needle one hair at a time, you will swear baby’s hair grew there! The mohair has a longer staple and is incredibly soft and luxurious. Our babies are cherished heirlooms that can be handled, cuddled and hugged.
